What is CrossFIt?

What is so special about CrossFit?
The obvious answer to this question is to get in shape. Getting in shape is definitely the right answer, but it’s not the only answer. What separates CFSSI from other gyms is the community. At CFSSI you’re never alone. One of the most fun aspects of working out here is suffering through the workouts TOGETHER. Since its beginning, CFSSI has developed an amazing community of athletes. What makes the community so great is that it is made up so many different kinds of people. Our community includes doctors, construction workers, teachers, chefs, moms, dads, kids and many other professions! CFSSI brings these people together to work hard and get healthy! THAT is what makes CFSSI so special.

How do you get started?
One of the hardest parts of starting crossfit is walking in the door for the first time. We want you help you take the first step. Here at CFSSI, our coaches are dedicated to guiding you through your fitness journey. There is no judgment when you walk in the door. We accept all levels of fitness! If you are a first timer or new to CrossFit, we offer an On-Ramp beginners class to teach you the basics and the foundational movements of CrossFit. For more information on our beginners course, give us a call! If you have experience in CrossFit, then you are welcome to go straight to our classes.
Mary Catherine Sexton- member since 2016 "I am a runner. Running has always been my exercise of choice, and it has kept me fit. As a 35 year old mother of two I was finding that running was no longer enough to keep me as fit as I would like. I was putting on weight, and I was feeling exhausted most of the time. I knew something had to change with my exercise routine.
After being extremely hesitant about the CrossFit world, I decided to give CrossFit St Simons a try in October of 2016. I walked into the box knowing very little about Olympic lifting and CrossFit in general. Coach Hamilton was great at assessing my fitness level, teaching me the correct technique for every one of the typical CrossFit moves, and modifying the workout to ease me into their program. After a short period of time I was extremely comfortable with all of the movements, and I have continue to grow stronger and more fit. I also have much more energy than I did the first time I walked thru CrossFit Saint Simons' doors.
Hamilton has not only helped me by coaching my exercise, but he has also assisted me by creating a custom meal plan based upon my weight, my daily schedule, and my fitness goals. With Hamiltons fitness and nutrition coaching I have gained an an amazing amount of strength and muscle, and I have lost ten pounds. I was fearful of "bulking" from CrossFit, but that hasn't happened. My body is becoming more trim, and my muscles are becoming more defined. Also, my running has improved. In February I was able to complete my fourth half marathon with very little run training. I was able to keep myself injury free, and I know I owe that to my increased muscle strength and endurance from my CrossFit work outs.
Hamilton is an amazing coach. He encourages me when I need it, but I don't feel pushed beyond my limitations. He is extremely good at giving each of us individualized attention during our workouts, and he has been great at helping me work through injuries. I enjoy the other box members, and I genuinely look forward to working out every day. Hamilton has done an amazing job of creating a warm, friendly, and fun atmosphere; our CrossFit Saint Simons group feels like a big family.
